As you already know, an industrial building is a construction designed especially to house the production of a company as well as its machinery and even serve as a workplace for its employees. However, and within these margins, the uses we can make of them are very varied depending on the activity of the company to which they belong. This is precisely the place we are going to start to explain what are the main types of structures and roofs for industrial buildings. Why? Because depending on this factor, some types or others will be more or less appropriate. These are the decks and structures for warehouse that currently exist in the market:

 

 

Structures

In the field of structures, we find three defined variants:

 

 

 

  • Metallic:

These structures are characterized because they are quite quick to build. In addition, it has much shorter forging times. The fact that they are made of metal means that the beams do not weigh and are very easy to transport compared to other materials such as concrete. However, they are less rigid, but the price of these structures is much lower. It is important that you protect these types of warehouses with fire-fighting materials so that they do not spread quickly. The structures of this material are very common in livestock or steel companies among others.

 

 

  • Concrete:

Unlike the previous one, concrete warehouse are much slower when for construction. For that reason, and because the materials are more expensive, the price of these warehouses are usually greater than metallic ones. Also, transport is quite complicated and auto-cranes and other mechanisms must be used. The advantage of concrete structures lies in the high rigidity of the construction. Likewise, fire is not as devastating in concrete environments as it is in metal. Another point in favor of concrete warehouses is that it is possible to manufacture any type of shape thanks to formwork, something that is difficult to carry out if the material used is metallic. Finally, the maintenance of these warehouses is minimal. This is because it is not necessary to apply anti-corrosion, oxidation or paint treatments (something that is essential for metal warehouses).

 

 

Mixed structures (metal and concrete)

Although they are opposite worlds for us, it is possible to reach an intermediate point where both materials come together to form a structure with more advantages than disadvantages. They are rigid but at the same time allow the use of different prefabricated materials, so that the construction time is less than that of the warehouses made exclusively with concrete. On the other hand, and as expected, are somewhat more expensive than metal, but in no case exceed the costs of concrete. As it is said, in the middle term there is virtue. Therefore, these mixed structures seem to be gaining ground in the market.

 

As for the covers, we also find several types to choose from when building an industrial warehouse. As we said before, the selection of one or the other will depend directly on the activity of the company that will use the building. However, and although we can choose between different varieties, it is very important that whatever our criteria, we must always bear in mind that the covers must provide the insulation that is expected of them both to avoid cold and heat from the outside. This is basic not only because it can affect production and internal storage but also because it affects the comfort and well-being of the people who work inside. We found four types of covers:

 

 

  • Simple:

Made of metal sheets, they are the most economical covers we can find. Its assembly is quick and simple and they are durable. However, we must be careful with this type of covers and ensure that they are fixed correctly since it is possible not to resist strong winds. It is also necessary to insulate them thermally.

 

  • Sandwich type:

These covers, also known as double, have two plates of metal sheets or fiber cement in the upper and lower area, leaving the interior isolated. The insulating material is usually glass wool or extruded polystyrene. Among its advantages, it stands out the acoustic control that prevents too much noise from the outside and at the same time prevents the internal noise, typical of the industrial activity of the company, from coming out. At the same time, it is a perfect type to keep the interior temperature.

 

  • Deck type covers:

The structure that forms this type of structure is a metal plate, an insulator (acoustic-thermal) and an element that makes waterproofing possible without the need for joints. They are easy to assemble.

 

 

  • Self-supporting roofs:

It is a curved metal plate that is placed on the load beams and fixed with screws. This option accelerates the execution process and, like the previous ones, has qualities that protect against noise and different temperatures. A characteristic feature of them is that it improves the sliding of water and snow and is very resistant to wind.
